Remember this?

This, my friends, is a VHS.VHS

These hefty rectangular objects are things of the past, obviously. Today, looking at this, all I can think of are disney movies and sick days, home videos and endless fast forwarding and rewinding.

Well. LONG gone are the days of VHS. Take a quick minute to remember just how far we have come.

Memory Lane

In 1995 the DVD made its way to the scene. Allowing us to digitally select our flicker show from a menu, skip chapters and rewind.

iTunes once again made their mark, this time on the movie world with Movies on iTunes playing to your iPod, iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Apple TV.

Then came On-Demand movies, ridding the world of Video Rental stores.

In 2005 YouTube took the video world by storm, altering the way we save and store our memories.

Now, you can watch a video any time, any where. Literally. Plane. Train. Automobile. Submarine. Helicopter. Hovercraft. You name it.

Google’s Makin’ Moves

Most recently, yesterday actually, Google announced the launch of its newest hardware device, Chromecast, its 2-inch hardware device it bills as being the “easiest way to enjoy online entertainment on the TV.”

That’s right. From the lowly VHS into which you blow to remove dust particles, rent and return from an actual, real live store front- to a teeny tiny two inch device that you plug into your Television and wirelessly stream videos.

Plug Chromecast into any HDTV and control it with your existing smartphone, tablet, or laptop. Send your favorites from Google Play, YouTube, Netflix, and Chrome to your TV with the press of a button.

Pop the flashdrive into your TV’s HDMI port, connect to WiFi and tada! Wirelessly transfer what you’re watching on your computer, phone or tablet to your TV.

MIND BLOWN

Fret if you must about technological advances, but this is one I can most certainly get behind. $35 bucks…that’s just 2 weeks of grande coffees–done and done.
